Do changes in my menstrual cycle indicate perimenopause?Updated 23 days ago
While changes in your menstrual cycle—like shorter or heavier periods—can be a sign of perimenopause, it’s important to note that many women experience little to no changes in their cycle until later stages. Even if your periods are regular, you may still be in perimenopause. It’s important to look for other signs, such as brain fog, low mood or anxiety, which may appear before any menstrual changes. Also, if a woman is on the contraceptive pill or HRT, it makes it more challenging to rely on the menstrual cycle as a sign, as hormone endogenous levels are altered which translates into changes to the menstrual cycle (e.g. you may not have a monthly bleed if on the contraceptive pill or you may have regular periods due to HRT).
